Memorial Day Weekend marks the grand opening of ADK’s (Adirondack Mountain Club’s) new dining option at our Heart Lake property: The Hungry Hiker. Based out of a newly constructed building located adjacent to the High Peaks Information Center (HPIC) and parking lot complex, The Hungry Hiker is currently open 12-8PM, Thursday through Monday, and will hold an official grand opening over Memorial Day Weekend.
Designed by our chefs at the Adirondak Loj, the menu offers a variety of American-style foods made from locally-sourced produce, including alternatives for vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-free customers. The beef used in our Big MacIntyre and Basin Burger, for example, is ethically sourced from Kilcoyne Farms out of Hudson Falls, New York. Other dishes include our staff favorite—the North Country Cuban—which is a grilled sandwich made from pulled pork, Swiss cheese, and sliced pickles served on a brioche bun with house-made IPA mustard. Ice cream is also available, and we will be offering a new featured flavor each week; this weekend’s flavor is Cinnamon Brown Sugar!
Grand Opening Special

Starts May 25 at 12PM
The facility that The Hungry Hiker is based out of was built as part of the Heart Lake Property master plan and was funded by a grant from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation (OPHRP). This plan included several other upgrades to the Heart Lake Property, including a new campground loop and upgraded wash house. The Hungry Hiker fits into this improvement as part of an effort to meet increasing demands on our trailhead and the High Peaks region as a whole. With more and more visitors every year at Heart Lake, we are seeing a corresponding increase in the need to provide additional support to our programs in order to keep up.
As a result, when visitors eat at The Hungry Hiker, they will be directly supporting ADK’s trails and education programs. Every meal we serve is more time on the summits for our stewards, more tools in the hands of our crew, and more opportunities for us to educate the public as a whole. The Hungry Hiker also makes our campground more accessible for first-time campers who may not have the equipment to effectively, or at least enjoyably, cook their own meals while staying with us. As such, we see many benefits coming from The Hungry Hiker, heightening our excitement about the impending grand opening.
Come check us out on your next hike. Open Thursday through Monday, 12-8PM, with extended hours during the summer months, from Memorial Day Weekend to Columbus Day. For any questions, please contact us at 518-523-3441 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
