The Ride
  • The 75-mile ride is all on road, wide shoulders for much of the route. You’ll ride through some of the most beautiful scenery – cutting right through the central Adirondack Mountains, most of which is public Forest Preserve land. We’ll cycle through the towns and hamlets of Bakers Mills, Wells, Speculator, Sabael, Indian Lake, North River, and back to North Creek. Your ride will take you alongside Mason Lake, Lewey Lake and Indian Lake. A long descent begins in the hamlet of Indian Lake and meets the Hudson River in the hamlet of North River with a relatively easy ride into North Creek. The entire distance along Route 30 and Route 28 to North Creek is designed for the bike enthusiast, with designated bike routes marked on the wide road shoulders.
  • The new 23 mile off road route is ideal for off-road riders, fat-tire bikes, gravel-grinders and overland riders. For those ididaride! cyclists who prefer being in the woods and a little closer to nature, rather than sharing the pavement and enjoying the expansive views along the traditional 75-mile road course, ADK has replaced the “short” road bike ride from Indian Lake with a 23-mile super-scenic mountain/hybrid bike route tour loop.  The ride starts from the Gore Mt. Ski Bowl in North Creek…just like the 75-mile road bike route. Some highlights of the 23-miler include biking along North Creek, crossing both Straight and Chatiemac Brooks and their waterfalls (familiar names to Gore Mt. skiers), biking along Mill Brook, passing tiny Riparius and its historic train depot, biking along rural sections of the mighty Hudson River as it flows through the Village of North Creek to Riparius…and finally, possibly saving the best for last, biking on the suspended boardwalk trail that crosses under Rt. 28, bringing riders back to the Ski Bowl.

Ride Profile It is estimated that this new mountain/hybrid bike route is about 60% dirt road, 20% dirt and rock trail, 20% paved road…and 100% pure Adirondacks! 

  • The elevation change for the full course is 4,580′. Half of that is uphill and half is down. You decide which is more fun.
  • Four (4) rest stops with snacks, water provided along the route. SAG (Support and Gear) wagon and mobile mechanical support provided.

Cancellations and Refund Refunds, less a $10 processing fee, will be issued to those who let us know by July 19. After that, no refunds will be made except for emergency situations.

  • Begin with some 5-mile rides in April. This should take less than an hour. A lot of short rides at this time of year will let you build up gradually. The trick is, once you are used to riding 5-miles, do it twice in a row. In May do these 10-mile rides for the first couple of weeks, then gradually add one five-mile ride at a time. By the end of May, you should be able to put together four or five five-mile rides, and do 20 or 25 miles at a time. The weather is great then; you’ll want to be out anyway. If possible, try and do rides that are not all flat, but keep challenging you.
  • Around the first of June, move up to 30-35 mile rides. Do at least two 50-mile rides by the end of June. In July, be sure to increase your mileage to 75 miles and keep adding more ascents. By July 26, you should have completed at least two 75-mile rides just to know your pace and needs before attempting the ididaride! Adirondack Bike Tour.
  • Ask your local bike shop dealers or cycling clubs on the best ways to prepare for rides. They are always happy to help!
  • Consider purchasing a $100 mile marker sign to cheer on your favorite ididarider!

ididaride! volunteer duties:

Rest Stop Supply Prep
Friday, July 26 – 12-2pm
ADK Lake George Office

Assist with fruit cut-up/bag, put food supplies in coolers and organize supplies for rest stops.  Rest Stop volunteers will need to pick up their supplies on Friday.

Route Marker and Road Sweep
Friday, July 26 – 4pm
Ski Bowl Pavilion

Volunteers to put out cones and signs at one-mile intervals along the 75-mile course and the 23-mile course.  4 volunteers needed for the 75, and 2 for the 23 mile course.  Everyone meet at the Ski Bowl Pavilion, divvy up the signs/cones.  For the 75-mile course, ideally 2 volunteers go in one direction along the route, and 2 volunteers go in the opposite direction and meet in the middle.  It is crucial that the road shoulder (always on the right) is monitored for large debris, sand piles, pieces of asphalt, and rocks.  Each pair of volunteers should have a can of orange spray paint to demarcate where the shoulder may be hazardous – ie., North River Hill.  This has been approved by the NYS Troopers, Troop B barracks in Indian Lake.

Registration/Set Up Crew

Assist with registration table set up; move picnic tables in the pavilion.  Unfold and set up folding tables/chairs.  Place a clipboard with waivers, registration list broken out by alphabetical categories, pens, black Sharpie and hardcopy registration forms at each station.  The black Sharpie is to mark riders arms while they wait in line during registration,  clear communication between number-writer and the volunteer taking the registration information is necessary to prevent duplicate numbers.

Rest Stop Volunteers

Pick up supplies Friday afternoon.  See list of helpful items to bring with you.
Day of proceed to rest stop location prior to riders
Set up pop up tent, and tables.  Set out food and drinks.  Do not pre salt potatoes, but do put salt in a bowl for dipping.  Fill water bottles for riders.  (riders tend to waste water when filling)  Notify base camp if any problems or supply shortages.  Ride sweep will notify you when you can breakdown your rest stop.  Rest stop 1 should bring their extra supplies to the 23 mile rest stop.  Rest stop 2&3 should bring their extra supplies to the rest stop after them.  Then return other items to the pavilion.

Give out swag bags and t-shirts to riders when they return from the ride.  Riders will pick up their bag, and proceed to the t-shirt table where they will ask the volunteer for the size they requested.  No need to reference the registration sheet or cross off names, as extra shirts will be ordered.
