When elderly landowner Patrick Wetherby falls to his death from the porch of his Adirondack great camp, people suspect he was pushed over the railing by someone who opposed his plans for the 18,000-acre Wilder Ponds tract. But no one is sure whether those plans involved preserving the land as wilderness or selling it for development of luxurious summer estates. Now his daughter Eleanor has inherited the land, together with the unanswered questions and brewing threats that surround it. For help, she turns to Albany-based consultant Warren Crow. As he probes the questions, Crow becomes deeply involved with the fate of the ponds…and involved as will with Eleanor’s daughter Ronnie, who loves the ponds just as they are.
